    Big Grin Wi-Fi @ AV2011

Unfortunately, we cannot provide blanket Wi-Fi service across the grounds that guarantees solid connectivity and throughput regardless of your location. The need to use expensive equipment to handle an unfriendly environment (campers, trees, aircraft, buildings, high concentration of devices/users, commercial microwave ovens, lack of power, height restrictions, etc.) coupled with the limited time the grounds are used makes investing in an ubiquitous, industrial strength infrastructure unrealistic. Therefore, the Wi-Fi model that we will use this year will be similar to last year (Wi-Fi hot spots and stations). More information regarding this year's service can be found on the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh News (see http://www.airventure.org/news/2011/110718_wifi.html).

    Here's to a great AirVenture!

I've found the coverage around the grounds to be much better than last year. Yes, I've had some weak signals and drops in the N40, but then I couldn't get anything last year, probably because all the planned hotspots couldn't be put up due to the weather then.

John - Thanks for your note. Please remember that the service will be better the closer you are to a hotspot. You might get a signal further out, but we cannot ensure quality of service beyond a diameter of about 100 feet.

John, I'm just happy I can get as much connection as I can, compared to last year when I had to trek down the nearest hotspot (32nd st?) from my campsite to get any wifi at all. The downside is that I can't reply to these forums with my ipod touch, for some reason.

My ipod touch has 4.2.1 OS. Whenever I try to reply to a post, the response screen comes up, but the keyboard will not. I have not tried to post a new thread with this new software, so I'm not sure if that part works or not.

I don't know anything about iPod touches, but I'm able to post and respond to posts with iPad 2 (version 4.3.3) and iPhone 3GS (version 4.3.3).

John - Altough I haven't found anything specific as it pertains to replying to posts on a vBulletin forum, I've seen out in the message boards that the iPod Touch using that version of OS has caused problems in a number of areas. Ironically, other Apple devices do not exhibit the same behavior. I recommend you upgrade your OS and see if you still experience the same.
