    How to get Title Search

    Hi folks,

If the aviation Gods approve and all goes my way, I may be the proud owner of a very nice 1968 Piper Cherokee! I'm hoping to go look at it and have a pre-buy completed this week. The other thing I need to do is get a title search. Does EAA offer this service for a fee? Any advice on how to get the search or who to contact?

    Thank you!!

You can go 2 ways on this. If you are using a lawyer to create all the necessary documents associated with the purchase and sale of an aircraft, he/she can also do the title search which should also include the info gathering on complete aircraft records and an accident report. Or, you can use the services of an aircraft title search company of which there are many. Here's an example of an AOPA partner:

You can contact any of dozens of aircraft title services - they're all in OKC to make it easy to get quick service. I didn't use a lawyer when I purchased my last certificated aircraft. I just googled for a service, found one that seemed OK, called them up, and in a day and a half had a FedEx package with their report and a CD containing the full records history for the bird.

I then just handled the bill of sale and registration myself in conjunction with the seller.

no muss, no fuss. But, the title on this bird was squeaky clean. I don't know about EAA handling this, but AOPA used to do the service as they were just like any other title company.

Thanks for the link. I haven't been a member of AOPA ever since a report came out about the outrageous salaries at AOPA. But, since I may be an aircraft owner and I'd like to use their title search service, I just renewed. It's $160 but they have a $65 discount for members. Sounds very reasonable.
