Continuing on with the tank build. Another change the builder wanted was to alter the tank mounts. On the original Fokker tanks the mounting brackets are riveted an soldered to the tank. He decided to go with a more modern approach, straps. So I added some beads to the tank to locate and support the straps.

Checking the fit of the bulkhead between the main and reserve portions of the tank.

    Preparing for riveting.

    More later.

The tank is assembled with brass rivets and all seams and rivets soldered inside and outside.

Finished tank with original Albatross Fuel Gauge.

If anyone is interested I will start a thread on the instruments currently under construction in the shop.

    Hi Ulpilot
I have been looking here on this forum for the first time today and saw your pictures of the DVII parts that you've made.
    Pretty impressive to me!
For not being a sheet metal worker i must say that you have lots of talent.
I really like the tank you have made.
I wonder what products you've used for closing the seams with tin(lead loading)fux?
    Best regards from the Netherlands

    Hi Paul,

I found a really good flux, name is "Ruby Fluid". Bought it from McMaster Carr. Standard tin/lead solder, though lead solder is getting rare here in the states. Did find a few pounds at a very old industrial supply outlet. The new "environmentally friendly" solder wouldn't stick at all!
