Registering and CofA for Foreign Experimental

How tough would it be to get a US registration and CofA on a foreign built Experimental. Australian built Cassutt III with no documentation (estate issue). Has been de-registered in Australia but was not registered here and no build documentation was found.

I assume a DAR review/inspection would address the basics but I haven't done this before and am curious wht it might take.

Is there an option to do a 'build-from' using say the fuse, engine, instruments and prop with a new, US built wing? Would that make it any better?

Thanks in advance for advice/horror stories.

It's highly possible to get an experimental- exhibition registration. The plane flew in another country, correct?

    As far as registration, no.
