    A real fighter pilot

A real fighter pilot, James Goodson of N Y has passed away in a Boston area hospital at 93.
He joined the RAF as an Eagle Squadron member at 19, flew Hurricanes, Spitfires, then into the U S air corp in P-47 and P-51s, and was a 30 victory ace.

Unlike many vets, he enjoyed telling of his wartime deeds, and his kids joked with him, "Dad we've heard what you did, but did anyone else do anything in the war"?

There is an excellent book by Lt. Col. Goodson, TUMULT IN THE CLOUDS. It is well written by a man who was there in WWII. It is available in paperback and reads easy. Especially read the chapters about THE KID, and THE PLAYBOY. And unlike the Yeager book, there is a lot more there about other pilots and the grim reality of air combat in those days against a tough and skilled opponent. It paints a picture of what it felt like to be in the middle of life in England in those grim and critical days.
This book is in the top ten that I have read and I often go back and read parts of it these days.
