    fuel flow meter

    Hello All,
Is anybody familiar with the out of production fuel flow "Nav-Man" system? Rather than use a fuel gauge, I would REALLY like to use a system such as the "NAV-Man. To describe it, it doesn't read 'empty--------full'. It tells you the fuel flow in gallons per.,gallons used and gallons remaining, accessed by push buttons on the gauge. It's just like a computer (I realize that's denegrading to the flow meter, but...) it can't read your mind. So, you have to tell it how much fuel you put in, then it works off of that. What fuel you had remaining before you added more, you keep that figure in your head and use accordingly. Now. Isn't this all perfectly clear?
    Thank you.
    Steve

What you're describing sounds like a Shadin

It's a pretty good product, but I'd still keep a fuel gauge though.

    Garbage in.
    Garbage out.
Someday I'll come up with something profound to put here.

Before you decide to use a NAVMAN I would read through this accident report.

I have both fuel gauges and totalizer (Shadin feeding a JPI) in my plane. I take the more pessimistic view of:

    1. My estimated fuel burn
    2. The fuel burn as indicatd by the Shadin
    3. The fuel gauge indication.

I think you'll have a hard time getting even an experimental approved without a fuel gauge. If you want a totalizer as well, that's fine
