Another EAA Member lost - Eric Hertz

Eric Hertz, an EAA member who won a Bronze Lindy at AirVenture in the Vintage category last year for his 1947 Beech Staggerwing restoration, was reported killed along with his wife in a crash at sea off the West coast of North Island in their Beechcraft Baron. Eric lived in Madison, WI before moving to New Zealand recently. We'll miss him as the people who worked for him at 2degrees in New Zealand where he was the CEO already do http://ericandkathy.2degreesmobile.co.nz/.

I am so sorry to read and hear this.

Do you know what happened to cause this. Maybe we all can learn something here and not repete this.

I know we all hate to read this stuff.

"On March 29, 2013, at 2320 universal coordinated time, a Beech G58, N254F, ditched in the ocean about 11 nautical miles west of Kawhia Harbour, New Zealand. The airplane was registered to Kiwi Lion LLC, and operated under the pertinent civil regulations of New Zealand. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured, and the airplane was destroyed.

Just prior to the ditching, the pilot radioed a loss of engine power."

Wow, loss of power on one engine? Both engines?

    That is a terrible loss.
