    Tapatalk

    Hi everyone -

In order to determine the cause of the repeated hacking attempts on this site, we're temporarily stripping everything down to as clean and simple vBulletin installation as we can. While we have no reason to think it's caused any issues whatsoever, this does mean temporarily disabling the Tapatalk plugin starting sometime today. If you don't use Tapatalk on a mobile device, then this won't impact you at all.

Note: we have absolutely zero reason to suspect that any personal information of any kind has been compromised in any way.

The nature of the hacks we've seen are more along the lines of malicious spammers who attempt to load additional pages or, as we've seen once or twice, redirect pages of our site to theirs, padding the stats on bogus pages selling cheap Viagra, etc.

I'll post again when I know more.

    Thanks -

    Hal

Is there a plan to re-establish the Tapatalk plug-in after you work through identifying the source?

Yes - the plan would be to disable it (if need be - see below) let things stabilize for a day or two, then reenable it and watch for any nefarious activity.

As it happens, we'd already disabled the one bit of actual code that Tapatalk inserts into the forum templates when we first set it up, so we may not need to shut it down at all, even temporarily.

In addition, there's no reason to suspect any problems with Tapatalk itself, it's just good troubleshooting to remove/disable anything non-standard.

Darn Hal, I was so disappointed that I couldn't get Tapatalk to work yesterday, that I had to get up from my computer and go out to the airport.
For those who are mostly into computers and don't know, an airport is a place where they keep the airplanes. Sometimes, even often, there are computers there also, but that is not the main item of interest.

Anyway. with nothing else to do I went flying.

Really was kind of fun, in a non tech old fashioned way.

Then you'll be extremely relieved to learn that Tapatalk remains functional! Plus, the whole point of Tapatalk is to make the forums easy to use on mobile devices so you can take them with you everywhere you go!

Hope you had a nice flight, Bill. Believe it or not, even I know that that's what it's all about.

I am hoping to trade my old fashioned airplane in for one of those new jobs that only have a single control lever, no mixture or prop control.

That way I can use my free hand when I fly to hold my "mobile device" and never have to be without access to Tapatalk.
    Pretty close to nirvana.

I just carry my iPad to the airport so I can access forums between flights. LOL

Any idea if EAA is ever going to re-enable Tapatalk? Sure made forum access easier for me. I know everyone missed my keen intellect and wisdom.

    Hi Jim -

Every time we've tested it, the forum crashes soon after with "out of memory" errors. I'd still like to figure it out, but it's just not something I have a lot of time to track down. As much as I liked it, usage was so minimal (less than 2% of all forum registrants) that I haven't been able to prioritize it very high. I'd love to have it back, so I'll do what I can, but no ETA at this point.

    Thanks -

    Hal

Thanks for the update, Hal. Bummer it still isn't working for this board. I'm on the others where it seems to be working okay again.
