Hello. My first airplane ride was as an infant/toddler in the early 60's in a DC 3. My father and I flew out of McNary Field, Salem, OR.

My father remembers a few details: United was retiring their last DC 3 in service. They embarked upon a farewell tour across the United States, flying into all the large and small airports that they had scheduled service routes. For $5 each, they made a short flight around the Salem area. Probably once around the traffic pattern.

I am wondering if anyone knows the history of this farewell tour, or if my father is remembering some of the details incorrectly (maybe it wasn't United, etc).

Any information on this exact flight, or on the program is much appreciated.

Mark
