Restored Mossie nearing flight!

Great video's, thanks! I had to watch them all several times. We are so very lucky that there are those willing to put forth the time, money and devotion to restore and preserve these amazing machines for future generations to see.

I've always admired the looks of British airplanes. I remember when I was a kit being thrilled when I saw a plastic model of a Mosquito for sale. It hung on my ceiling along with my Spitfire and a large number of other WWII types.

I wonder what route that plane will take from NZ to the States? It would be a kick if it came through Alaska..Louis

Well, some of it could go by shipping container - but not the 54ft one-piece wing! Its going to take some serious thinking to work out transport arrangements. I reckon they should just leave it here!

Hi folks,

It suddenly occured to me, at the launch dinner of the aeroplane at Ardmore, while listening to Jerry Yagen, Wal Denholm and Glynn Powell himself, what an awesome country that we live in!
New Zealand punches well above it's weight and the creation of the Mossie is just another example of how clever we are! So proud to be a Kiwi and to have witnessed it fly for the first time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGCslbIktnQ for my amateur take on the weekend and a bit of a tribute to Geoffrey De Haviland as well. We were representing the Tiger Moth club and managed to have a dozen Tiger Moth's on site and one Gypsy.

Anyway, you guys in the US get to enjoy this aeroplane from here on. Oshkosh next year will be something. How much would I like to see Jerry's Mossie and Rod Lewis' Glacier Girl in a formation pair.

It's probably a good thing the Mosquito is leaving NZ as that would be just one more thing that would tempt me to totally destroy our family budget and head down there in the dead of winter. My wife would also like to see "Hobbiton" from the "Lord of the Rings" set. You have a beautiful country with some exceptional folks in it.

I was hoping the Mosquito would be flown to the States and pass through Alaska, but, like mentioned above, that is probably not going to happen. I suppose it wouldn't make much sense to have such an adventure in a plane which absolutely cannot be replaced.....Louis

Yeh I think you folks over there are going to absolutely love the Mossie (for those who haven't seen one fly), a bit of a shame it isn't staying but we don't have the the means to keep aeroplanes like that in this country although there are a few notables who have invested their earnings in vintage aircraft.
TVAL is a great company as well as you said. They are doing phenomenal things up at their base at Masterton.
The vast majority of the LOTR sets form my backyard as far as flying goes. If you ever plan to come out here do give me a shout. Can point you in the right direction particularly in the South Island. And by the way, I was at Oshkosh this year (my first time in the States). Covered a fair bit of CA, and flew across in a Tiger Moth from a wee town in Iowa, to Wittman Regional, and absolutely loved it. incredible country, great people, and what an aviation scene you guys have. I will be back.

Zack, get that passport now! The CWH is one of the top museums in the world...and not a static museum, every plane flys! The show in June is superior with other warbirds from across Canada and a bunch of CAF aircraft as well. Hamilton is an hour north of Buffalo, NY and 35 minutes west of Toronto where I live. If you come, let me know and I'll show you some great Canadian hospitality! I'll even take you to the original Dehavilland factory in Toronto where most of the WW2 Mossies were built.
