What is the status and procedure for Grass Runway for Airventure 2012?

Lots of talk amoung the round engine crowd but nothing official on the Airventure site. Can we get an update?

I know they designated one on the grass down south of 36L. However, unless you only have a tail skid, it's really probably better you land on the hard surface.

I spoke to someone tonight that informed me that from Hightower himself, there will be grass to land on @osh, Request it with the controller and it is N/S runway, South of 36/18. Hope to hear something official soon.

It's working okay for me - may have been a server hiccup.

Here's a direct link to the .PDF with more details:

Thanks Hal. Be there Monday in the 39 Cabin Waco. Wanted to support the efforts of everyone for a grass runway by using it but with a 3800lb Waco that crosses the fence at absolutely no less than 85 mph 1100 ft is doable but no margin for error. The old girl loves grass but at least 1500 ft of it. Next year I will be bringing a 29 Waco CSO open cockpit that we are just finishing and 1100 ft is plenty. Thanks again for the work on this, it is appreciated.

Link is working again now. Odd that they require radio contact with the tower, as many tailskid equipped aircraft like the 1926 Waco 9 and 1935 Pietenpol Air Camper that we were going to bring (Waco had engine trouble, wait till next year) have unshielded ignition and can't use a radio, negating the usefulness of the grass strip.
