    SBD from Lake Michigan

    Where and when will the SBD be raised from Lake Michigan ?

    It's going to wind up in Pensacola and probably be just stored so I tend to not get excited by the recovery of Navy wrecks. The Navy's policy of "It's always ours" is draconic and really probably hinders the recovery of a lot of really beautiful birds.

    Right again Steve. National Museum of Naval Aviation has three on display, but owns about 12 total. Some (if not all) came off the bottom of Lake Mich.

    There's a reason why I was not happy when Oshkosh went gaga over the anniversary of naval aviation given the way the Navy treats people who want to locate, recover and restore lost naval aircraft. Not to put too fine of a point on it, but the only reason I ever look for a downed naval aircraft is to locate any skeletal remains of the crew that might still be on site to allow a proper burial.
