Sonex Mandatory Inspection and Bolt Change SNX-SB-006

Does anybody know the details of the landings that resulted in the above mandatory actions?

Regarding the removal of the stainless steel landing gear bolts with steel bolts, how will this be better?

I'd appreciate any and all member information/input on this.

    Thanks.

Without seeing lab reports, I would suspect that they are starting to have s problem with the galvanic action between the Ti gear legs and the CRES bolts. It's probably resutling in some point loading issues as they only report problems with a/c being operated off of turf and especially rough turf. With the rougher surfaces, landing loads are going to spike higher and it's either casuing failures or giving signs of impending failures. They also indicate that there may be a problem with builders overtorquing the bolts and maybe getting too close to the yeild point for the bolt installation. From reading the bulletin, it doesn't sound like a major problem unless you operate off of turf and even then, it's not a huge thing.

Fairly prudent where if in doubt, make the change and disseminate the info. It would be very interesting to see what they were getting in evidence of this problem.
