And speaking of joining a Chapter, does it cost anything to join an EAA Chapter? Are there any Annual dues? How much? How does the Chapter support itself?

Usually there are chapter dues. They often vary between $10 and $30 per year, and are set by the chapter, not EAA. Generally, chapters that have a facility such as a hangar or clubhouse charge toward the higher amount. Most chapters participate in the 6 month free trial program, so you can see if you find it valuable to become a permanent member.

Chapters support themselves through dues, fundraising events, donations, and some other methods such as building an aircraft project and selling it.
