I had those oil temperatures on my Vagabond with a C85-12.
i purchased the PA-11 oil bulb shroud from Univair and added a scat tube
like the PA-11. Oil temp is now 160-180.
Lots of discussion...
If his isn't, I have one in a similar condition.Dave
My Vagabond shows 618 lbs delivered. When I got it it was 800 lbs and I now have it pared down to725 lbs. Two wing tanks and no fuselage tank and a C85.Personally I think they filled them with Helium...
Dan,
Sorry to see about the Lycoming. I've been in this position myself this year and ended up going with a used half-time all the log books engine as my best way out.
Answering your question, yes...
This is how I found the pre Oct. 1955 Field Approvals that are considered approved data when I did my Vagabond. Go to www.landings.com and search for all J-4's. It will show what engine is installed....
Dave,Super Cubs have a nice STC modification that attaches theSeat belts to tabs welded onto the airframe. Attlee Dodge might alsoHave something to give you ideas for a J3 clone.Dave
Anything more than a 65 HP engineTakes it out of LSA because the way the Luscombe Type certificateWas set up. Delightful airplanes, I had a 8A with dual wing tanks.I have a 85 HP Vagabond now, again...
Luscombe 8F isn't LSA. Something to consider.Dave
Tom,I would think 0-200. Cost, available engine parts, prop availability, maintenance availability. Looks would go to the Radial!Dave
A local guy, Vince Marenelli, now gone west had one with a 220 Continental and it had a really short nose. He said it was still nose heavy. Not saying impossible, just going to be really hard.Dave
Delta Dart,Culver Dart, Dodge Dart( maybe not the Dodge Dart)I love the elliptical wing and the short pudgy fuselage.I have two Pug Puppies and drive a Mini, what else would you expect.Dave
Great book, sitting in front of me. The pilots of that race were V.L."Speed" Wicoff in the Dart and Leonard Peterson in the Monocoupe.I had a chance to buy a clipped wing Dart project from Lloyd but...
Has anyone ever built a experimental model? Always loved the look and heard they are good flyers, my idea of a great antique/experimental airplane.Dave
