Ask the DAR to cite the relevant regulation.
My friend flew off the phase 1 on the Sonerai he built while was a student pilot. Yes, his instructor signed him off to solo in it.
Pete Plumb, who was the driving force behind the project, has passed away. His family and friends are working on transition the project to somebody else, but haven't announced anything yet.
It's one of very few monoplanes that people ooh and aah about over on the biplane forum...
Don't worry, you're not alone... except in my case it's been too darn cold to fly my open cockpit Hatz, while my decadent friends with cabin heaters are out flying, landing on frozen lakes, and...
Go for it! PPG is a lot of fun, as are other ultralights. It's a very different scene from airplanes, though there is a lot of overlap, many PPGers are also airplane pilots, or become airplane...
Take a look at JavaProp. It doesn't do everything you want, but it's free and can help get you in the ballpark.
For low to moderate speed aircraft, larger propeller turning slower is more efficient than a smaller propeller turning fast.
If you crash, the FAA or NTSB will ask to see the aircraft logbooks... they did when I had my accident.
Glad to see Hatzes holding steady, too... Hatzes and Piets just seem to go together. The hotter planes (Pitts, Starduster, Skybolt, etc.) without current kit support are dwindling, I guess people...
JLS, it can be done (breaks in the longerons) but it's not optimum. You will have to analyze each element (like you would for any truss anyway), and you'll probably need doublers or finger plates at...
With the loss of the 103 training exemptions, insurance was about the only thing USUA did in recent years.
Correct, you have to be a USUA member. Just consider it part of the premium.
Avemco, Falcon, EAA, USUA, ASC, others.
I would say it's a bad idea. Clecos don't hold nearly as securely as rivets. They're fine when used as intended, but vibration and bouncing around would wiggle them around and possibly elongate the...
Move.
But seriously, if it has undoped sailcloth covering then yes, keeping it outside is a real bad idea. The later RANS's were doped, I believe, which isn't quite as bad. A better choice in...
Contact the FSDO. Getting new operating limitations specifying a new test area is straightforward, no problem if you can trailer it there. I've done that for purchased homebuilts that I wanted to...
A 2 seater is not an ultralight (at least in the US). You will need at least a Sport Pilot certificate with a seaplane endorsement, or a Private Pilot certificate with ASES (airplane single engine...
Looks homemade. Could be from a hovercraft or airboat.
Not a P-51, is a typical R/C pattern (stunt) plane of the early 1970s. Not sure which one, there were hundreds of designs back then... it looks a little like a Sterling Lancer but the rudder shape...
Whatever it is, it's beautiful.
Frank, look for a free program called AF5Rename, it can do all kinds of mass renaming.
Two words: "paragraph breaks."
Most airplanes have at least some dihedral. The airfoil used has nothing to do with it.
Ditto.
