On This Day - Operation Desert Storm Began in 1991

In the early hours of January 17, 1991, F-117A Nighthawks of the 415th Tactical Fighter Squadron under the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing launched air strikes against critical strategic command and control installations in Iraq, beginning the coalition air campaign of Operation Desert Storm. This HGU-55/P flight helmet was worn by EAA member Rob Donaldson, a Nighthawk pilot from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, while flying combat missions during the campaign.
