Solidworks 2020-2021 now crashes every time I try to create a mate. The animation moves the parts into position but the second part does not show up as selected and then I get the spinning wheel of death. I left it going overnight and in the AM it was still spinning.
I don't use that version but I'm thinking to turn off the animation -- at least as a test. I always turn that kind of effect off.
What are you trying to mate? It sounds weird but have you tried making the part through a different method to see if you get similar results or breaking the part into smaller parts if possible. If it a symmetrical part maybe try mirroring or patterning it so the initial mate requires less work.
