Manual Precedencd
I’m building an experimental O-200. I’m probably reading it wrong, but what takes precedence - the 2011 overhaul manual or the 2019 M-O manual?
Specifically in the area of threading the case.
OH says permatex and string on the 2-4 case half. Nothing on the bearing bosses except for the #7 stud below the rear cam bearing.
M-O says permatex and thread around all main bearing bolt holes as well PLUS Loctite 515 on the 1-3 case halves opposite the permatex coated areas. HOWEVER the M-O diagram is for ALL 4 cylinder engines without breakouts for each model.
In the sealants table (3-4) it says use the 515 on all SI models. The SIL 99C-2 has same table, but instead of “all SI models” says “as appropriate.”
I’m leaning to follow the OH since it is specific to the O-200.
Am I correct? Thank You for sharing your wisdom.

I used the Permatex plus Loctite 515 on my Cont. IO-550B and my engine guy says he uses it on all his engines, including Lycoming even though they spec something different. BTW I got the Loctite at my local Fastenal store.

Well, after I posted the topic and got no response, I called Contintal tech support. They said the M-O manual is newer so supersedes the OH manual. I used the Permatex and 515 with thread.
