AirVenture 2013 app
Will there be one released for this year?
If so, would it be possible to get a direct link in .apk format? I checked out the old apps and unfortunately on the tablet I have, I cannot use the conventional Google Play Store to download android apps, but am forced to use third party downloading sites.
Thanks

We'll definitely be doing another app this year. As far as the direct download link goes, we'll certainly make that available if at all possible. Please feel free to remind me as we get a little closer.

Thanks, Hal! It sucks since my tablet is a lesser-known brand, so it doesn't get support from major app makers or hosts.

Just saying I found the App very helpful last year, thanks.

Okay, it's a LOT closer now. Any word on the 2013 android app?

It's in the works and on schedule - I don't have an exact availability date yet, but we're looking at around July 1st, with a data update mid-month.

Is there anyway these apps can just be updates to last year's app? It seems like every fly-in now that does this (SnF, Oshkosh, AOPA) just releases a brand new app each year. If you make it an update to last years app, you get two advantages:
1) People who have installed last year's app will get automatically notified the update is available. No need for them to search out the app each year.
2) Users don't have to delete last years app after (or before) installing this year's app. Just another annoying step that isn't necessary.

The app was very useful.
What would make it even better is if you could show your "You are here" location on the Airventure Map.

I'm doing the final testing on the IOS version now. As long as I don't find anything too egregious, Sporty's will hand it off to Apple to start their approval process, which usually takes about a week. The approval for Android / Kindle is usually much faster, so they should all three be live at rough the same time.
We'll let you know as soon as they're available.
