cleaning windscreens
read an article couple years ago about the proper way to clean plexiglas/lexan windscreens. the article cautioned that when using a polish or cleaner......only use an up/down pattern or a circular pattern. I can't remember which it was. anyone recall?

found my own answer......straight lines vs circular

The best strategy is to avoid scratching the plastic altogether. If it has to be scratched, vertical scratches are better than circular scratches, lol, lesser of two evils?

When I was training as a line guy years ago, they taught us to always use straight vertical movement to clean windscreens.
-
I was taught that also (and taught it to others when I was a CFI), but don't really know why.
-
its because circular scratches are worse than straight scratches. Especially in the sun.
-
Right. Circular or horizontal wiping may create minor scratches that interfere more with your vision than vertical lines.

I've been using the Windex Crystal, non-ammoniated version, on canopy successfully. The liquid spray washes away accumulated dust/bugs and doesn't scratch.

And what nobody else has mentioned... never use paper towels; only a soft cotton cloth. Paper is abrasive and will scratch the plexi.
