Here is a monster mountain wave on the east side of the Sangre de Christo mountains in centeral Colorado. Was going to fly this morning but decided not to in my LSA RV-12 because of the turbulence likely in this mess. Enjoy.1188

it looks like a good day flying as long as you stay out of the higher altitudes where the wave is. am i missing something here. is it unsafe to fly around at 3,000' agl? 1191

The glider guys will probably tell you that you are just flying the wrong kind of airplane for the conditions. For them, strong mountain wave = serious altitude. They'll put up with a bumpy ride on the way in and out.
Nice photo of the lenticular clouds!
