I wish he'd mentioned where to get the rubber mat and what durometers of rubber are appropriate for this kind of work. There is very little practical information on hydroforming aluminum on-line.

It's a great process but, as lame as I am, I just can't see how the sides get formed down, and tight to the form with only the vertical pressure. What am I missing?

Very cool! The rubber under high pressure behaves like a liquid and flows around the part.

See this month's (May/16) Experimenter, pgs 2-4 for more great details...

Although, I haven't found the drawings for the forming box on the EAA website - that were mentioned in the story.

We just used this method to form the Ribs for a bearhawk.

We used old farm rubber mats and a 20 ton press. The process worked great.
