The presentation is live now at:
https://www.facebook.com/EAA

Solidworks is FREE for EAA members at www.eaa.org/solidworks (http://www.eaa.org/solidworks)
Not sure what modules are available yet. I'm not at the presentation, only watching online.

Unfortunately I started watching late, and the feed cut out on me during the Q&A, but it sounds like the student edition has been renamed to the Student / EAA edition.

Edit:
I went through the request process, and it allows me to select

Simulation
Flow Simulation
Motion
Plastics
Simulation

Technical Communication
Composer
Composer Player Pro
Inspection
MBD

Electrical Design
Electrical Schematic

Product Data Management
SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM

I haven't been an EAA member in a few years, but after hearing this announcement today I renewed my membership as soon as I got home from work. Solidworks is currently downloading on my computer.

This is an awesome membership benefit. Thanks to all at the EAA that came up with the idea and worked to make it come to fruition.

Hi Guys,
I'll be happy to answer questions on the use of SolidWorks on this forum http://eaaforums.org/images/icons/smiley.gif

I didn't install the software during the initial posting, so I didn't see the complete process since I was putting together a different computer to run this program.

Once I got it assembled, and all the Windows updates, the standard version is what installed as the student/EAA version. All the additional modules require separate registration numbers.

Now to spend a lot of time going through tutorials.

Jeffery, what's the min hardware to run SolidWorks?

Here's a link to the requirements:

https://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/SystemRequirements.html

Bear in mind that CAD software is a guzzler of almost all computer resources - disk, CPU, graphics, memory.
I use an "old" (2011) Dell Precision 4500 laptop with 8Gb memory, and it's good enough for 95% of my work.
It depends somewhat on what you want to do with it - for example, if you want to make large assemblies (200 plus components) you'll need more memory (12-16Gb).
For getting started you can use the minimum recommended requirements in the above link.
Hope this helps.

I have my user name and password and am recognized by the system but not sure it is connecting me with my membership number. I can't get past the login page to download the program.

When I enter www.EAA.org/solidworks (http://www.EAA.org/solidworks) I get http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/eaa-membership/eaa-member-benefits/solidworks-resource-center

When I click on "Solidworks" under the Zeneth Cutaway I get http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/eaa-membership/eaa-member-benefits/solidworks-resource-center/solidworks-student-design-kit

When I click on download Solidworks I get http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/eaa-membership/eaa-member-benefits/solidworks-resource-center/download-solidworks-software-form To sign up for an account but it already has the welcome with my name.

If I reenter my user name and password it returns me to the sign in page. http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/eaa-membership/eaa-member-benefits/solidworks-resource-center/download-solidworks-software-form

Round and round we go. ????

I have also tried the benefit access button but that does not get me where I want to go. It allows a change of password and edit of personal info.

Help!

Did you get to the screen that says you will be sent an email with instructions how to proceed?
Did you get any such email?

When I tried it I also got the form already filled in, but I didn't re-enter information (lazy!http://eaaforums.org/images/icons/rollseyes.gif) - just proceeded to the download page and then received the email instructions.

This is probably just a teething problem for this member benefit.

1. Got the "SOLIDWORKS Download Instructions" e-mail from EAA
2. Filled out SOLIDWORKS "Education Trial & Student Access" page
3. Accepted usage agreement
4. Downloaded the installer
5. STUCK HERE: ran the installer but didn't receive a serial number to proceed with the install.

Any thoughts on why I haven't gotten a serial number? I'm registered with their DraftSight 2D freeware. Maybe they see me as an existing user. Thanks, Daisuke

EDIT: I posted this in the "Activation key problem" thread also.

Yes, I had the same problem. I tried an @yahoo.com email address and an @gmail.com address and never got an email with a serial number. I finally tried my work email (@_.edu) and then got a message with a serial number. I don't know if they're filtering out common commercial email providers. I also wonder if there's an issue with having DraftSight (their free 2D program) already registered with them.

I got a second email with the registration number. The first one had the link to the download.
It was addressed from EducationDept@solidworks.com

This is great! I use SolidWorks at my job, but I'm far from expert. Now I can use it at home and improve my SW proficiency while making parts for the plane.

Is there a central folder where we can upload and share files amongst us EAA members? I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the designs this group comes up with!

From what I understand this is definitely on the cards, but might take a little time until the OSH16 dust settles.
In the meantime we can simply ZIP the files and post them on this forum. Hint: Don't post a whole airplane design - the file might be somewhat too bighttp://eaaforums.org/images/icons/wink.gif

I got my 12 digit serial number in a second email right away. Keep refreshing your email.

Any idea when I log in with my EAA.org account, that it sends me back to a screen to log in? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I was able to run the installer, but never received an email with the serial number to validate the installation. I waited over a day after the first submission...after no response, I went through the process again using a different email address, still with no luck! Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks much...

Allow popups, turned off the popup blockers and I am in!

I'm in the same boat. I'm running Windows 10, with MS Edge. Filled out the forms twice, no second email with pin. Anyone run into this and resolve the issue. Left a message with DS sales/support, but I doubt we are a high priority for them.

Got the email. I had been using the new outlook. Switched to gmail (with a proper SPAM folder), and had received it as SPAM. Outlook's Bulk Mail folder is assembling a nice collection of Donald J Trump self-fundraising letters, "Canada Pharmacy" opportunities, and potential hot dates..but nothing from DDS.

The second email with the PIN also states there is not technical support for the Student Edition, just their forums.

If you continue to run into problems after trying something other than Outlook (as mooneymike suggests) and checking your spam folder, please let me know via private message and I will try to get your activation key and send it via attachment to an email for you. Thanks!

Roger,

I do not believe it will run off a USB stick. You can install unto a drive other than C. However, it will still throw a few directories in the C drive. For sure there are directories created under your Windows C:\Users\userid\AppData folders.

Paul,
So were you actually able to obtain a license for and INSTALL the "SolidWorks Electrical Design"?

My install package provides a check box for installing, then asks for a license key. I put in the license key for the SolidWorks Student Edition and it rejects it...saying I need a unique serial no for each product. I saw your later post on only being able to install the Student Edition...but wondering if anyone was also able to install the "Electrical Design" option.

Thanks,
Howard

After trying a Hotmail and several Comcast email addresses, I finally signed up for a Gmail account and the activation key email went to the spam folder. For some reason, none of my other address ever received the activation key email... Hope this helps.

Paul,

I have downloaded the 2019 EAA SW version and it does not have Simulation or even SimulationXpress on it as best I can tell. I was not given any options to select any of the things you indicated you were offered. I had done this also in late 2017 (right after SW was made available to EAA members) but some incompatibility of that version with my video card ultimately caused me to give up on being able to run Solidworks at all. I was told that Simulation was not available in the EAA package so I gave up until just recently seeing if things had changed since then. My video card seems to be working with this version but still am not seeing any Simulation capabilities available. Any help would be most appreciated.

It does include Xpress simulation. Here is the full list of features (EAA Members received Standard): https://www.solidworks.com/sites/default/files/2018-07/EDU-Product-Matrix-ENG.pdf

To open Xpress, click on the Evaluate tab, next to Sketch tab. If Evaluate is not open, right click on Sketch and select Evaluate.
