I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for a book similar to Dan McDonald's book "Owner Assisted Aircraf Maintenance", but for experimental airplanes. It should have a focus on maintenance, not construction, and discuss basic tasks and what is legal.

I understand that the best way would be to build the airplane, and obtain all the privileges and experience of a builder, but one has to start somewhere.

Thanks, Pete

Great question, Pete. I would buy such a book.

IMHO, light airplane maintenance is airplane maintenance regardless of the type of airworthiness certificate as the technology and techniques are the same. ASA publishes a four volume set of A&P books by Dale Crane which are excellent. The volumes are General, Airframe I, Airframe II, and Powerplant. These are not cheap but are worth it.

Looks like you can download these for free from the FAA...

I couldn't find a "complete" version of the General section so that will need to be downloaded by chapter and combined manually on your computer. The other four volumes are complete and are rather large (33MB to 130MB).
