If you look at this morning picture, you can see why there were no cub owners at the 10:30 A.M. meeting at MERFI in Urbana, Ohio on Saturday. The first two aircraft to arrive were autogyro’s that had to make four or five attempts before making it safely to the ground.

The weather finally cleared so that at the 1:30 P.M. cub meeting we could talk about the 75th anniversary of the Piper Cub next year at Airventure. Everyone at the meeting is planning to fly their cub to AirVenture next year. We think that over 200 cubs will commit to make the pilgrimage in honor of the 75th anniversary.

I want to publicly thank Adam Smith from EAA at Oshkosh for flying down on Friday in his Cessna 180 to attend the Saturday meetings. He owns a clipped wing cub that he gets to fly when his wife isn’t flying it. In fact, I believe his wife did most of the flying to and from Grimes. The EAA organization and we who are looking forward to the 75th anniversary of the Piper Cub are lucky to have a person like Adam on the staff to manage this event.

P.S. next year the weather will be better at MERFI !
