Thought I'd share some of the photos I took from the Military Aviation Museum's "Biplanes and Triplanes" event a few weekends ago. The museum has some excellent WW1 replicas on hand, as well as a few others that flew in for the event. It was a lot of fun.

Great Photo's!,

Where was this event held and is it an annual affair? I've been wanting to go to "Old Rinebeck" for a long time, but my travels to NY always take me north to visit friends upstate. This looks like a midwestern airport.

Me too, love those old DH's. I liked the TSA agent in the photo set as well.

The Military Aviation Museum is located in Virginia Beach, VA. I believe this event is intended to be an annual event. http://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org/

Great photos, Zack. I almost went to their airshow this spring, but decided not to at the last moment when the weather looked bad, and it did turn out wet that weekend.

Jerry was nice enough to give me a ride in that DH Rapide last year at Oshkosh.

I didn't know that he had that much pre WW II stuff, looks fun.

THX Zack,

Virginia Beach is a lovely place with great weather year round. ( Compared to Wis, anyway) I think I met that TSA guy in Albuquerque this past May!

Dragon Rapide, one of the best looking airplanes ever built. I'd love to fly one someday.

So in most all of the biplane photos, I can see the flying/landing wires between the wings.

But in the triplane photos, I can't see wires between the cabanes & interplane struts. As though it's 3 sets of cantilever wings stacked. Then your photo 564 confirms - no wires! Is that for real? Anyone know that the triplanes don't have wires?

Eric, the Fokker Triplanes were designed as cantilever wings with box spars, without any interplane struts, just the 2 wires inbetween the center section struts. The story that I've always read is that it's the pilots who wanted interplane struts installed after the prototype was built. Of course with cantlever wings there's no need for flying and landing wires.
