Slightly off topic, but you are the guys to figure this out.. it came in a box of parts...

Its a gauge, nickel plated, about 1 inch wide, has a handle-slides into something. No way to connect it to anything-inductive, or set by hand only??

Reads E...F on a scale. Looks aircraft? Came in a cardboard tube thats well worn, might be a test gauge?

Help!!

Looks like a gas indicator to me. E = empty and F = full.

How about a shot of the bottom? Is there anywhere for a float or an actuating rod of some kind to attach?

Just a hunch with nothing to back it up, could be part of a test set to calibrate a fuel or oil tank.

Here is a shot of the back. There is nothing to connect this to anything at all..

I'd also guess a quantity gauge, could a float rod that rotates belong in that hole in the center?

Google "us gauge co" without the quotes and click on images, some neat stuff!

Its not an actual hole... I can see no way to hook it up to anything... Just set it with the knob.. but, then whats the point? Ive been googling us gauge for days and other searches.. I cant find anything at all like it? Mystery.... for now

Could it be pressure activated?

Why not ask the manufacturer? http://www.ametekusg.com

Good idea... I sent along an email, and some photos.. Fingers crossed. Not sure if it they have records, or the time to look into it, but we will see..

Ametek is pretty good... I sent an old US Gauge oil temp gage from my 1941 Taylorcraft to them to fix... the did it for free, with the explanation that "they didn't know what to charge so they wouldn't charge me anything."

Removing the two screws may tell the story. Or, take a small drill bit, insert in hole & gently push. Does the indicator needle move?

No answer from the company at all..... I do not see any actual hole to place a needle? Stumped!

How about taking the screws out of that bottom plate and looking inside? I'd start by loosing the screws and keeping my thumb on the plate to see if there is a spring behind it...no sense having the whole thing fly apart b/4 you can get a good look inside? It certainly looks like some kind of fuel gauge, but maybe for some non-aircraft application? This really has my curiosity up...if you take it apart post pictures or if you are successful with the manufacture let us know what the heck it is!???????
